Today marks the first public release of mcSkinningBee, my Maya skinning tool, with version 1.0.0 Beta now available to download.

The beta is currently available for Maya 2027 on Windows and Linux.

mcSkinningBee is built around selection-based skinning workflows, with the goal of making weight editing faster, more direct, and easier to control during everyday rigging work.

This is also the first tool I’m releasing publicly through Bear of Spades, and the first tool I’ve ever released commercially, so this launch is a bit of a milestone for me. The tool is still in beta, and feedback at this stage is especially useful. If you try it, don’t hesitate to test it, break it, report bugs, suggest improvements, or simply let me know how it feels to use.

A quick preview of the main features is available in the video on the tool page. The documentation is still quite sparse for now, but the installation and launch sections are complete. I’m hoping the tool is intuitive enough, and that the feature showcase video gives enough context to get started in the meantime.

Commercial licenses are not available for purchase yet, but they will be coming soon. The beta is available now for download and testing, and non-commercial use does not require a purchased license.

If you have questions, feedback, or run into an issue, Discord is the best place to reach me, especially for bug reports.

And one final clarification before this becomes a recurring problem: the logo is not a panda. It is a Bear of Spades. Completely different species.
